NEW YORK CITY — Popular grocery store Fairway Market plans on opening a new location in the forthcoming Hudson Yards, company officials announced.

The supermarket, known for stocking high-quality food, will occupy the ground floor of the development's south tower at West 30th Street and Tenth Avenue, Fairway and Hudson Yards officials said in a Thursday statement.

"Hudson Yards is the next great New York neighborhood and we're excited to be an integral part of the development of this world-class location," Fairway executive Charles Santoro said in a statement.

The south tower, which is slated to open in 2015, will also house fashion industry leaders Coach and L'Oreal.

The ground floor will give the market 45,875 square feet of space, comparable to Fairway's Upper West Side and Upper East Side locations, officials said. An outpost of the store opened on Sixth Avenue in Chelsea last month.

The Hudson Yards' Fairway is slated to stock produce delivered daily, organic and specialty foods, and house a butcher, baker, cheese shop and fishmonger.

Hudson Yards faced years of setbacks, but finally broke ground last year and is due to occupy a 28-acre space in Hell's Kitchen and sprout several glass and steel skyscrapers, including Fairway's new home.

"It is natural that Fairway Market was our choice for an anchor location on what will become the new heart of New York," Hudson Yards President Jay Cross said.
