TRIBECA — The Big Apple's bagels have some Turkish competition.

Simits, traditional Turkish ring-shaped breads that are covered in sesame seeds, have arrived in TriBeCa at the newly opened Simit + Smith.

The 111 Worth St. cafe offers whole wheat and multigrain simits, which are narrower than bagels and have a crispy crust and chewy bread center — something like a bagel and pretzel hybrid. The shop also sells simits without a hole, as a mini loaf of bread.

Customers can eat the simit — a ubiquitous street food in Turkey — either plain or sliced open and smeared with cheeses, olive spreads or hummus. The shop offers a variety of simit sandwiches, such as a ricotta, dried fig, walnut and honey combination, or a roast beef, dijon, arugula and gruyere-filled simit.

The store also sells some hard-to-find Turkish drinks, including the savory yogurt drink Ayran, as well as traditional Turkish sweets, coffee and tea.

Simit + Smith’s opened its first city location on the Upper West Side at 124 W. 72nd St. in January and plans to soon open another spot in the Financial District at 100 William St.

The 111 Worth St. Simit + Smith is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
