NEW YORK CITY — Police made a grim discovery Sunday morning when they found the body of a woman in her Williamsburg apartment along with her unattended 2-year-old boy, police said.

Cops arrested boyfriend, Angelo Sanchez, 41, for the murder of Melissa Torres, 32, after she was found dead in her bathroom about 7:30 a.m., apparently strangled or suffocated, according to the NYPD.

Sanchez, who shared the first-floor apartment at 70 Clymer Street with Torres and their toddler, was charged with murder in the second degree and endangering the welfare of the child, Elisha, according to police and the NY Daily News.

Neighbors in the building said that they saw Torres coming and going in her motorized wheelchair, but knew little about her.

"She was nice. She was polite," said one woman, who declined to give her name.

A source said that police arrived at the building shortly after Sanchez fled the scene.

Calls to the medical examiner about the cause of death were also not immediately returned.
