NEW YORK CITY — A pregnant woman fought off a man who tried to rape her while she was out walking her dog in Inwood Sunday morning, sources said.

The 30-year-old woman, who was not identified, had been walking her small dog about 7 a.m. when she passed by a man sitting on a bench near West 212nd Street, according to the NYPD.

When she doubled back and passed him again, he stood up and trailed her, according to sources and surveillance footage.

The man, who appeared drunk, then grabbed her in a bear hug and tried to rip her clothing off, according to sources.

A man who lived nearby heard the woman's pleas for help and rushed outside, scaring off the suspect, sources said.

Neither the woman nor her unborn child sustained any injuries, according to sources.

Investigators said the suspect was in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall, and weighed approximately 180 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue denim shorts and a brown or red baseball cap, cops said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
