Bed-Stuy Summer Series Celebrates Renovated Fulton Street

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A local nonprofit group is celebrating the renovation of Fulton Street in Bed-Stuy with a summer-long celebration, featuring music, art and more.

The Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation's Summer Presenting Series is a series of summer and fall outdoor programs designed to promote health and culture, the group said.

The series celebrates the completion of a city initiative to renovate Fulton Street, including a mile-long streetscape program the city said is designed to beautify the area and increase economic activity, as well as a the renovation of Restoration Plaza, at 1368 Fulton St., and the creation of Marcy Plazaan 8,000 square-foot plaza across from Restoration that features new seating, two water fountains and new foliage.

Weekly jazz performances have already begun, and there will be other musical performances throughout the summer and into fall, including an appearance by rapper Big Daddy Kane at October's Restoration Rocks! Music Festival.

Outdoor theater at Marcy Plaza includes a live peformance of "Romeo and Juliet," and a screening of the film "Soul Food Junkies" at Super Foodtown, 1420 Fulton St.

Health programs include weekly bike rides and a 10k run, as well as a weekly farmers market and cooking demonstartions. There will also be dance performances, art exhibitions
