INWOOD — A down-on-her luck Inwood dog is getting help from friends in high places.
Author Kris Carr and pop singer Sia Furler are among the celebrities who have come to the aid of Georgia, the Inwood mini pit bull that is in need of a new home after her owner died last month.
Both celebs have taken to social media to get the word about about the dog, who captured the hearts of Inwood residents when she was found tied up next to a restaurant on Dyckman Street two years ago.
Furler was the first celeb to try to help find a home for the pooch. The "Titanium" singer took to Twitter on June 24, posting a link to a story about Georgia and asking fans to step up.
"If you're in NYC can you RT and network this sweetie dog?" Furler wrote.
Carr, author of the bestselling "Crazy Sexy Cancer" book series, posted about the dog on Facebook on July 9, offering to give away a signed copy of her latest book to anyone who adopted the pit bull by July 12.
Carr added that fellow author Victoria Moran would be willing to give away a copy of her book "Main Street Vegan" as well.
Georgia was found outside of Papasito restaurant on Nov. 24, 2011. She was eventually adopted by Inwood resident Amy Sims, who died June 13.
While Georgia's adoption was previously being handled by the Bully Project, a group that works to find homes for New York City pit bulls, program manager Jennifer Bristol told supporters in an email that the Bully Project stepped away from the adoption process for "various reasons."
Bristol said Georgia, who was previously being fostered with a family in Inwood, is currently being taken care of by a friend of Evans in downtown Manhattan.
"She is safe and cared for," Bristol said.
