Inwood's First Prefab Residential Building to Be Completed Wednesday

INWOOD — One of the city's first prefabricated residential building to come to Inwood is near completion.

The Stack, a 38,000-square-foot, seven-story concrete and steel building, was shipped to 4857 Broadway in 56 separate modules. Placement of the modules started in late June and will be completed Wednesday by an eight-person crew and one crane.

"This method of construction makes for efficient, on-site integration and greater unit quality control that will in turn lead to affordable housing in New York City," read a statement sent out by developers Jeffrey Brown and Kim Frank.

While the developers described the units as "affordable housing," there have been no prices set for the 28 rental apartments, which will include 6 studios, 6 one-bedrooms, 14 two-bedrooms, and 2 three-bedrooms.

The building will also include 4,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor.

The Stack is expected to open by October.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that shipping would begin this week. The placement of the modules began last month.
