NEW YORK — The remains of a firefighter killed in the 9/11 attacks have been identified as Lt. Jeffrey Walz, the Fire Department confirmed Friday.
The Medical Examiner's office announced Walz's identification Friday, the Associated Press first reported.
Walz's were among those collected 2002, but they had not been identified until Friday's announcement, officials said.
Walz, who was 37 at the time of his death, worked in Ladder Company 9 on Great Jones Street in Greenwich Village.
Walz was promoted to lieutenant posthumously, according to the Fire Department.
The Westchester resident and Staten Island native is survived by a wife, Rani, and son, Bradley, according to Westchester Magazine.
