UPPER EAST SIDE — A man was hit by an SUV Wednesday in a five-vehicle collision involving two taxis, two vans and a FedEx truck, officials and witnesses said.
The pileup happened just after noon at East 61st Street and Lexington Avenue, according to FDNY officials.
Officials said an SUV cab tried to squeeze between a van and a sedan taxi, lost control and hit the pedestrian, pinning the man between the van and the SUV cab and scraping all the cars.
The man was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital. An FDNY spokeswoman could not immediately describe the extent of the man's injuries.
According to witnesses, the man was walking out of a nearby restaurant carrying a pizza, which was scattered on the street.
"The cab hit the pedestrian crossing the street, pinned him against the van and dragged him," said Fabio Schoditt, 27, who saw the crash.
"His leg is definitely broken. It was twisted."
