MANHATTAN — An MTA driver was punched in the face and robbed aboard her bus on a Lower East Side street Monday night, officials said.
The driver, whose identity was not immediately released, was assaulted near the FDR Drive and Delancey Street about 8:45 p.m., according to FDNY and MTA officials.
The assailant boarded the almost-empty bus at Houston and Columbia streets near the end of its route, according to the Daily News.
He then turned and slugged the driver, snatched her pocketbook, and ran into the nearby Baruch Houses, the News reported.
She was rushed to New York Downtown Hospital, the FDNY said, where she was reportedly listed as stable.
The circumstances of the assault remain unclear.
