PORT RICHMOND — A pregnant woman was shot in the face early Monday morning during a botched robbery outside her Port Richmond home, police and neighbors said.

The 30-year-old woman was walking home from her car to her home on Albion Place when a man approached her, displayed a gun and demanded her money at 4:30 a.m., police said.

The woman, who is two months pregnant, refused and the man fired a shot to her face and fled the scene, ABC 7 reported.

She was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, police said.

Walter Finley, 59, who lives next door to the victim, said the woman lived with her husband and their two small children.

“Very quiet and nice couple,” Finley said. “It’s sad.”

The victim's husband told ABC 7 that his wife rushed into their house bleeding and begging for help. In the hospital, she has been hooked up to tubes and had the first of four surgeries on Thursday, ABC 7 reported.

Finley said while crime is a constant reality on nearby Port Richmond Avenue, Albion Place is a very quiet block and he was shocked by the shooting.

He said a neighbor, who did not want to be interviewed, rushed to the woman’s aid and called 911.

“She stayed there the whole time,” he said. “She’s an angel.”

Police described the suspect as a 6-foot-tall man with a thin build, last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
