MASPETH — Hundreds of Maspeth residents and several businesses lost power after a truck backed into a utility poll and snapped it in half Thursday morning.
The driver of the CSX Intermodal freight truck allegedly backed into the pole at around 9:45 a.m. in front of 61-40 Maurice Ave., witnesses said, breaking the pole and severing the power cable above it.
The outage affected residents, along with local restaurants and a nearby gas station. Roughly 900 customers lost service, according to a ConEd spokesman. Service was restored by about 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
CSX did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
