Woman Attacked in LES Elevator, Cops Say

LOWER EAST SIDE — Police are searching for a suspect involved in an attempted sexual attack on a woman early Sunday morning in a Manhattan elevator, police said.

The man followed a 23-year-old woman into an elevator inside a Cherry Street building on Sunday morning at 3:05 a.m., police said. 

Once inside the elevator, the man tried to sexually assault the young woman, police said. The woman contacted authorities and was in stable condition at Beth Israel Hospital on Sunday.

Police said the suspect was a man in his 30s, with a thin build, and was last seen wearing a plaid shirt, blue jeans, and a knit hat. The NYPD released a surveillance video of a man alleged to be involved in the incident.
