WILLIAMSBURG — The film nights families feared were gone for good are returning to the Williamsburg waterfront after all — and the summer season is starting in just two weeks, the State announced.
East River State Park's kid-friendly movie series kicks off June 24 with the animated flick "Despicable Me," and continues the next five Monday nights with "Life of Pi," "Hugo," "The Artist," "Up" and "Skyfall."
The series, previously run by the non-profit Town Square Inc., was canceled this spring, sparking parents' heated protests against the discontinuation of the program.
"They don't seem to care about the kids who use this park," local father Jonathan Burkan had said about the State.
But this year another local mainstay Neighbors Allied for Good Growth of Brooklyn will be hosting the movies, officials announced Friday.
Seatings for the free films start at 6 p.m., and each movie begins at 8:30 p.m.
