HELL'S KITCHEN — The far West Side of Hell's Kitchen will soon get its own farmers market, opening up access to fresh fruits and veggies in a spot that locals have long complained lacks a decent grocery store.

Just steps from the Javits Center, the West 42nd Street Farmer's Market is set to run on Wednesdays from July 10 to Nov. 27. The new market will operate on the sidewalk in front of One River Place, a 41-story residential tower between 11th and 12th avenues.

The market will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each Wednesday, with the traffic lane on the south side of the street closest to the market closing at 6 a.m. those days.

Residents on the western edges of Hell's Kitchen have long complained that the area lacks a decent, affordable grocery store. The no-frills Big Apple Meat Market moved a few blocks south from its home near West 42nd Street and Ninth Avenue in January.

A promised affordable grocery store slated to open in the Gotham West development at West 45th Street will now become a gourmet, Eataly style market, to the consternation of some locals.

Members of Community Board 4 are expected to put their seal of approval on the new farmers market at this Wednesday's board meeting.
