SOHO — A 24-year-old was brutally beaten over the weekend by a group of five men after he left a SoHo Japanese restaurant and karaoke bar, police said.

The man was repeatedly kicked and punched in the face and body as he walked out of BINY on 8 Thompson St. with a couple of friends about 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.

He told police the assault seemed completely random — he did not know the attackers, and there was no verbal confrontation before they jumped him, police said.

The man was left with severe swelling and bruises, as well as cuts to his head and face, police said.

Officers arrested one of the alleged attackers, 27-year-old Hua Liang, who was charged with second degree gang assault — a charge given when an attack occurs with the help of two or more other people  — and second degree assault, according to the criminal complaint.

Liang’s Legal Aid attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.

He was released without bail and is due back in court on July 31, according to court records.
