MANHATTAN — A 61-year-old man's face was burned when a propane tank caught fire on West Street Tuesday morning, an FDNY spokesman said.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was hospitalized with facial burns around his eye after a propane tank inside of 565 West St., near Gansevoort Street, ignited about 4 a.m., fire said.

He was rushed to Weill Cornell Hospital and is expected to recover, the spokesman said.

It is unclear what started the fire.
