CHELSEA — A taxi driver jumped a curb and crashed into a Duane Reade store in Chelsea early Friday morning, fire officials said.

The driver was heading northbound on Eighth Avenue near West 26th Street when he ran onto the sidewalk, knocked down a canopy hanging over the door and crashed into a wall about 4:30 a.m., authorities said.

Fire officials said no one was injured in the incident.

Izzy Mehmedovich, the superintendent of the property at 322 Eighth Ave., said the crash caused pipe damage that could force the pharmacy to stay closed until Monday.

"It caused a lot of damage to the building," Mehmedovich said.

The super estimated that damage to the sign alone will cost between $5,000 and $8,000, and far more to repair the plumbing.
