NEW DORP — A Staten Island man suspected of forcing his way into an elderly woman's house and robbing her has been arrested, police said.

David Gala, 24, of New Springville, was charged with second-degree robbery after barging into the 86-year-old victim's home New Dorp Thursday and stealing her purse, according to the NYPD.

Cops said the woman heard a noise at her window about 5:40 a.m. that day. When she opened her back door to check it out, Gala allegedly forced his way into the house, fought with the woman, stole her pocketbook and fled the scene.

The woman was taken to Staten Island University North, where she was treated for a laceration on her hand and bruising on her arms, police said.

Gala is due back in court on Friday.
