QUEENS — Forest Hills cops have arrested a career criminal after a prolific burglary spree in the neighborhood, in which cash and jewelry were taken, officials announced Friday.
“The person arrested is a career criminal who lives in the exact area of all the burglaries,” according to Heidi Chain, president of the 112th Precinct Community Council, who posted the information about the arrest on the council’s Facebook page.
According to Chain, cops are still investigating another person who may have worked with the suspect.
“Because this is an on going investigation.... no further details can be shared,” Chain wrote.
The burglary spree began in February. Since then the neighborhood has seen 14 break-ins that occurred between Metropolitan Avenue and Exeter Street and between 69th and Continental avenues, the police said.
Cops are asking residents to remain vigilant and to continue calling in anything suspicious.
The precinct will also hold a community meeting to provide residents with tips on how to prevent burglars from entering their homes. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m. at P.S. 174 at 65-10 Dieterle Crescent in Rego Park.
