'Hooters' of Shoe Shine Wins Vote to Serve Beer, Wine and Pulled Pork

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Along with enjoying scantily clad women, customers at the Financial District’s Star Shine NYC can now sit back and enjoy beer, wine or pork sandwiches with their special buff and polish experience.

With some laughs and a few puzzled inquiries, Community Board 1’s Financial District committee voted to support Star Shine’s beer and wine license bid Wednesday night.

Owner Kevin White, whose daughter works in the shop, said he plans to limit beer and wine, which will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., to two glasses per customer. Other selections on the limited menu will include chicken and grilled veggie sandwiches — but no Hooters-style wings.

“We won’t have guys hanging around, this isn’t a bar,” said White, before inviting the CB1 members to come try out his “ultimate” shoe shine, where only attractive young ladies in tight black shorts and tanks polish shoes.

As first reported in DNAinfo.com New York, Star Shine NYC opened it's "upscale" shine shop in April.

“I’m going to vote for it,” said committee co-chair Susan Cole. “What the hell.”
