WILLIAMSBURG — Brooklyn Bangers hot dogs, post-punk DJ's, exclusive Toro Y Moi tracks and high-profile record label stands are just a taste of the multi-sensory playland sweeping into East River State Park this Saturday.
The Brooklyn Flea's spring Record Fair Day is bringing 50 music vendors, a full DJ lineup and Dogfish Head beer beside Smorgasburg market's dozens of food stands on the waterfront.
Even the performers anticipate sensory overload.
"Will I be able to concentrate on my records, or be distracted by brisket?" pondered DJ Dan Selzer, who turned to culinary metaphors when discussing his tracks. "I have some obscure old post-punk singles that have been pickling for weeks now, I'm just hoping I used enough garlic."
Selzer, 38, is just one of the six DJ's selected by Red Bull Music Academy to perform all afternoon as customers peruse the stands filled with limited edition records. Labels including Warp Records and Knitting Factory Records are among the vendors, who will be set up from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the free event, the website notes.
"It's always interesting playing records at events that aren't your standard Brooklyn dance party. Is it a chance to go deep and weird and try to impress all the record nerds, or do I want to just play some fun music so I don't give anyone indigestion?" said Selzer. "In any case, I'll probably play a random bunch of records, some obscure, some not, hopefully all fun."
