Friendly Robber Helped Victim Run Errands Before Holding Him Up, Cops Say

EAST VILLAGE — Police are on the hunt for a suspect who befriended an elderly man on the street, offering to help him run errands before robbing him while walking him home.

At about 1 p.m. on Jan. 29, the suspect approached the 81-year-old victim on East 3rd Street and Avenue B and befriended the man by offering to help him run errands, police said.

As they arrived at the victim's home, the suspect grabbed him and stole his property, according to the NYPD.

The thief is about 6 feet tall and weighs 220 pounds and was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt with an Adidas logo on the front, police said.

The robbery occurred within the 9th Precinct, which covers the area from East Houston Street to East 14 Street and from Broadway to the East River.
