NEW YORK CITY — Cops have arrested a 14-year-old boy for leaving a fake bomb at the door of a former firefighter Wednesday morning, according to the NYPD.
The boy was charged with placing a false bomb after he left a propane tank strapped with wires and a number pad at the former firefighter's Bay Ridge home near 68th Street and Fifth Avenue about midnight, police said.
The firefighter's family and neighbors were evacuated while a bomb squad investigated the device, the Daily News reported.
They determined the bomb was a harmless hoax and nobody was injured, cops said.
It is unclear why the boy, whose identity was not immediately released, placed the device. Cops said Thursday that the firefighter and his family were not embroiled in any apparent disputes.
