NYPD Called to Girls Brawl at Murry Bergtraum High School

CIVIC CENTER — Two fights broke out at Murry Bergtraum High School Thursday afternoon, sending students pouring into the hallways, officials said.

The two separate brawls started between female students in the school's hallway, "and students left classrooms to see the fight," a Department of Education spokeswoman said in a statement. "No students were injured."

Police responded to the school at 411 Pearl St. and issued nine summonses and one youth desk appearance to students, the DOE spokeswoman said.

"It was pretty messy," Fabio Seberino, 18, a senior at the school. "One girl's weave got pulled out."

Seberino said the fight he saw lasted about three minutes before police broke it up — and no students intervened to stop it.

"If anything, people just jumped in," Seberino said.

Harrison Su, 18, a senior, heard about the melee from friends.

"There's been fights, but not like this," Su said. "There's never been a fight this big before. This was a straight-up brawl."

The troubled high school under the Brooklyn Bridge has seen many fights over the past several years, including some in which students attacked school safety officers. Last October, four students were taken into custody in connection with an attempted arson at the school, police said.

"Bergtraum Is A Zooo Gone Mawwd Lmfaoo," @_ViaGotTheJuice tweeted Thursday.

Seberino said he didn't know why Thursday's fights started.

"We get a big event like this every year," he said. "It's nothing new."
