'Painter in Residence' Program Seeks Artists to Frame Bryant Park

By Alan Neuhauser | April 10, 2013 8:06am

MIDTOWN — Calling all painters!

The Bryant Park Corporation's "Painter in Residence" program returns for its second straight year this summer, awarding four lucky artists the opportunity to set up their easels en plein air virtually anywhere in the park for two-week periods in July and August.

Any American artist ages 18 and older may apply for the residency by submitting samples of his or her work from within the past two years. Applications are due May 31, and the selections will be announced June 21.

Those chosen will receive a $2,000 stipend, in exchange for creating depictions of the park's landscape and architectural features to help add to the visual record of Bryant Park.

Representational styles are preferred, according to the corporation's website, but more experimental or innovative approaches, as well as alternative media, are also welcome.

To apply or to learn more, visit the Bryant Park Corporation website.
