PARK SLOPE — God works in mysterious ways, and so do thieves.
A crook snatched a wallet belonging to a Sunday school teacher at St. Saviour Catholic Academy on Eighth Avenue and Seventh Street as she was teaching young people about the ways of the Lord at a Sunday school class on April 7, police said.
The teacher, a 50-year-old Windsor Terrace resident, left her purse in the school's library while she taught class from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., according to a police report. When the religious educator returned, her wallet was missing.
Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct included the following, with details from police reports:
• A 29-year-old man was severely beaten by a would-be robber on Park Place between Sixth and Seventh avenues on April 2. The victim was walking home from the Bergen Street 2/3 subway station when a man approached him, punched him in the face repeatedly, and said, "You have five seconds to give me all you got or I'm going to kill you." The suspect fled after the victim said he didn't have any valuables.
• A 27-year-old man was beaten and robbed outside Daisey's Diner on Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street on April 1. The man told police he left the diner at 5:14 a.m. to go home, and stopped outside to ask two men for a cigarette. The two men allegedly saw that the victim had been drinking, and starting punching him.
While the victim fought back, three more men from inside the diner came outside and allegedly joined in the beating. The first two men took the victim's wallet, then fled in a dark Mercedes Benz. The other three men fled in a separate dark car.
• A bodega owner went to open his store on Fourth Avenue and Union Street on the morning of April 3 and found that $10,000 in cash had been stolen from the cash register. The owner, a 59-year-old Bethpage resident, told police he suspected the thief was an employee who closed the store on the night of April 2.
• A bold burglar struck Okeanos restaurant on Seventh Avenue and Eighth Street during the wee hours of April 2. Surveillance cameras show the suspected thief removing a lock cylinder on the restaurant's front door at 2:49 a.m. At 3:08 a.m. the same suspect was caught on video fleeing westbound with the eatery's cash register, which contained $100 in cash and coins.
• A thirsty thief stole a pricey bike from an apartment on Seventh Avenue and 14th Street. The 44-year-old victim returned home to find his $1,500 black IRO Cycle bike gone. The victim told police the thief appeared to have entered through the rear window, and that the thief drank water from a wine glass on the kitchen counter.
• A 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the theft of two Apple laptops and some chargers at Dr Brendan, a Mac repair business on Fifth Avenue and Lincoln Place on April 6.
• A worker at Brooklyn Crepe & Juice on Flatbush Avenue and Prospect Place had his wallet stolen from the eatery's staff room. The victim told police the thief was an employee who came to work, went into the staff room, then left and never came back to work. A half an hour later, the victim got an email from Chase bank saying his account was overdrawn.
