Craft Beer Fest Brings 76 Brewers to Chelsea

By Mathew Katz | April 8, 2013 6:32am

CHELSEA — Can you ever have enough craft beer?

Beer-lovers will have the chance to taste suds from 76 different breweries and 31 states at the upcoming SAVOR American Craft Beer and Food festival.

The popular DC-based festival will make its New York debut at the Altman Building and Metropolitan Pavillion at 125 W. 18th St. on June 14 and 15.

Unlike some other beerfests around the city, SAVOR makes a name for itself by bringing the brewers and stars of the craft beer world to the front lines, serving up beers and chatting about them with guests.

The festival also offers up food pairings with each craft beer, designed by Chef Adam Dulye of San Francisco's The Monk's Kettle and Abbot's Cellar.

SAVOR is bigger than ever at its new location, bringing in 45 brewers that have never participated in the festival before. There will be beers on tap from heavy hitters like Sierra Nevada, Abita, Dogfish Head, and Colorado's New Belgium, along with smaller breweries like Devil's Backbone and Heavy Seas.

For a hefty ticket price of $170, participants will get craft beer and food pairings, a chance to meet the stars of the craft beer world, and a commemorative tasting glass.

For an extra $25, ticketholders can participate in a "private tasting salon," focused around a different theme, including India Pale Ales, pairing beers with Cajun and Creole food, or picking out rare brews.

Tickets go on sale on April 17 at 10 a.m., with a special pre-sale on April 16 for members of the American Homebrewers Association and the Brewers Association.
