INWOOD — Starbucks is coming to Inwood.
The Seattle-based coffee chain is looking to open up shop on 207th Street, a local community board member confirmed.
Community Board 12 member Ariel Ferreira said he learned from real estate developers in Washington Heights that Starbucks was looking to open up on 207th Street. He could not confirm when, or exactly where, the chain was planning to begin operations.
"All I know is that it will be in the 207th Street area, most likely on Broadway," Ferreira said in an email.
A spokeswoman for Starbucks declined to confirm details to DNAinfo.com New York, saying in an email: "We are continually evaluating our store portfolio; however, we do not have any information to share regarding this location at this time."
The next-closest Starbucks that far uptown is on West 181st Street at Fort Washington Avenue in Washington Heights.
A 207th Street Starbucks would stand in direct competition with Darling Coffee, an independent cafe just north of 207th Street at 4961 Broadway. Darling owner Nick Lidakis said he had heard of Starbucks' impending arrival from a customer, but added he wasn't worried about competition.
"One of the things about opening an independent coffee shop is that if you can open up across the street from Starbucks, you're in business," Lidakis said.
"Sometimes people feel like Starbucks is all they have, that it's their only option. But if there's something right there that's better, they'll flock to that."
