Chelsea's Cafeteria Plans TriBeCa Outpost in Expanded Cosmopolitan Hotel

TRIBECA — Chelsea brunch and late-night spot Cafeteria is bringing its trendy comfort food to TriBeCa.

The restaurant — whose current 24-hour location serves breakfast favorites like lemon ricotta pancakes and grilled steak and eggs until 5 p.m. — is slated to open in the yet-to-be constructed expansion of the 165-year-old Cosmopolitan Hotel on Reade Street.

The new 5,400-square-foot eatery will have 42 tables and take up two floors of the hotel’s extension at 113 Reade St., according to a liquor license application the restaurant recently submitted to Community Board 1.

The city approved the six-floor annex for the West Broadway hotel about four years ago, but the project has since been delayed. It was not immediately clear how soon the hotel annex and new restaurant were scheduled to open.

Community Board 1 has fielded some concerns from residents worried the hot spot will be open around the clock like its Chelsea counterpart. However, the Downtown Cafeteria is asking for a 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. liquor license, and will shut down both food and bar service at 2 a.m., according to its application.

The restaurant will go before CB1’s Tribeca Committee later this month.

Representatives from Cafeteria and the Cosmopolitan Hotel did not immediately return requests for comment.
