BUSHWICK — A 37-year-old man who was shot in the face before crashing into five parked cars Sunday night may have been targeted after responding to a call requesting his specific cab, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Carlos Nunez was rushed to the Brookdale Hospital after being shot and crashing his 2004 Toyota Siena at 1 a.m. at Decatur Street near Irving Avenue, police said. Nunez died at the hospital.

"The cab...was asked to go to a location," Kelly said Monday at an unrelated press conference. "The driver was dispatched there. It appears, or is certainly possible, that the person who called for the cab knew who was going to be driving that cab."

Nunez was driving eastbound on Decatur Street when he struck the five parked cars, which were unoccupied, police said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
