Park Slope Tasting Event to Feature Food from More Than 35 Restaurants

PARK SLOPE — Foodies can put their appetites to good use at the Taste of Fifth Avenue, when more than 30 neighborhood restaurants will serve up sample size portions of their signature dishes at Grand Prospect Hall on April 10.

Tickets for the event are $45, a relatively bargain compared to other restaurant tasting events around the city, said Irene LoRe, executive director of the Fifth Avenue BID, which organizes the event.

It's also for a good cause: attendees choose from a list of nine local organizations to receive $20 of each ticket, including M.S. 51, the Old Stone House, Fifth Avenue Committee, the Park Slope Civic Council, and the President Street Community Garden.

New on the charity list this year is Good Shepherd Services, a citywide nonprofit that runs a group home for at-risk youth on Ninth Street and Fifth Avenue and recently opened a computer lab at a community center on Fifth Avenue and 12th Street.

This year's Taste of Fifth Avenue include a a few new restaurants, such as chef Dale Talde's Pork Slope, Dizzy's, and Nahm Thai Kitchen. Some of Park Slope's premier restaurants also turn out for the event, including Al Di La, Benchmark, Blue Ribbon and Stone Park Cafe.

In addition to the food, the locale is a draw, LoRe said. The 19th century Grand Prospect Hall on Prospect Avenue and Fifth Avenue, which donates rental space for the event, has "gaudy, opulent" flair, LoRe said.

"It's something from another era," LoRe said. "It's really a kick."
