'Game of Thrones' Costume Contest Brings Best of Westeros to Brooklyn

PARK SLOPE — The Iron Throne came to Freddy's this weekend.

Dozens of "Game of Thrones" fans turned up at Freddy's Bar Sunday for a combination costume contest-trivia night paying tribute to the hit fantasy HBO series.

With the bar serving up a special "Game of Thrones" suds from Brewery Ommegang, patrons were asked trivia questions about the smash series while seven superfans donned their best "GoT"-themed duds.

One contestant couple, Dani Kane and Brendan Murphy, of Westchester, dressed as the popular characters Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow.

“We’re a 'Game of Thrones'-themed relationship, we like to play into each others' nerd,” Kane joked.

Another contestant, Nina Urban, also dressed as Daenerys, met her husband, Jim Glaser, dressed as the Lord of Bones, at another costume event. Both couples are avid convention-goers and costume aficionados, they said.

Glaser even designed the replica Iron Throne set up at Freddy's Sunday, and he said he was happy to lug it down to the bar.

“The throne had been taking up most of my kitchen recently, and we were hoping to find a buyer,” he said.

In the end, Murphy — complete with a 5-foot replica broadsword — took home the audience favorite award and earned a spot on the throne.
