Four Shot, One Fatally, in Coney Island Building, Police Arrest Suspect

BROOKLYN — Four people were shot, one fatally, in a Coney Island building Friday afternoon, and police arrested the suspect Saturday morning, officials said.

Joseph Brown, 29, who lived across the street, allegedly walked into an apartment at 2703 W. 33rd St., between Bayview and Neptune avenues, about 3:45 p.m. and shot the victims, police said.

Angel Rivera, 28, of Brooklyn, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD said.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the head and rushed to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition, while a 62-year-old woman, who runs a day care center inside the apartment and was the mother of the 24-year-old, according to the NY Daily News, was shot in the stomach and was also rushed to Lutheran in critical condition, police said. The fourth victim, a 40-year-old man, suffered a graze wound to his head and was treated on the scene, police said.

According to the News, three other people were inside the apartment when Brown allegedly unleashed the barrage of bullets, but all of them escaped unscathed.

Brown was charged with one count of murder, and three counts of attempted murder, according to police.
