HOWARD BEACH — The two men whose charred remains were found in Spring Creek Park early Wednesday morning have been identified and now cops are looking for three vehicles spotted in the area in an effort to find the killer.
Cops discovered the bodies of Rudy Superville, 22, and Gary Lopez, 25, about 4:30 a.m. when firefighters extinguished a massive blaze that had engulfed the grassy area surrounding them, according to the NYPD.
Both men, who were from Brooklyn, were shot in the head and found lying face down. Their arms were underneath them, but it was unclear if their hands were tied together.
On Thursday morning, cops released surveillance footage taken near 157th Avenue and 83rd Street about the same time as the fire, about half a mile from where the bodies were found.
The vehicles that can be seen passing by are a light colored four-door sedan, a dark four-door sedan, and a dark two-toned custom van.
Cops said the motorists weren't considered suspects in Wednesday's homicide, but investigators want to question them.
Hundreds of bodies have been found in the park and the marshlands around in over the past 50 years, giving the area a dubious reputation as a mob dumping ground.
Darryl Littlejohn dumped the body of 24-year-old student Imette St. Guillen there in 2006. Both the Gambino crime family and the 1930s group dubbed "Murder Incorporated" are believed to have used the area as well.
