CONCOURSE — Ten students were hospitalized when an eighth grader pepper sprayed a fourth-floor classroom at a Bronx school Friday morning, a Department of Education spokeswoman said.

The entire fourth floor of PS/IS 218 Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School, at 1220 Gerard Ave., was evacuated about 11:40 a.m. after the spray was released, FDNY and DoE officials said.

Ten students, including the eighth grader who released the spray, were taken to Lincoln Hospital for observation, the education spokeswoman said.

Disciplinary action against the eighth grader is pending, the spokeswoman said.

Parents were notified about the incident, she added.

The school serves about 900 students grades kindergarten through fifth.
