BATTERY PARK CITY — A bevy of tasty new food options is on the way to Battery Park City, adding new flavors to a growing local dining scene.

Popular Los Angeles burger joint Umami Burger, Cambodian-inspired sandwich shop Num Pang and Beverly Hills-based Sprinkles Cupcakes are a few of the "fast-casual" restaurants opening in the expansive food court currently being built in Brookfield Place, formerly called the World Financial Center.

A total of eight eateries have signed on for the new 600-seat space, called the Dining Terrace, Brookfield announced Thursday. The company expects to add another six food shops before the scheduled January 2014 opening.

“We have hand-picked these chefs from across the country to create an assemblage of best-in-class concepts showcasing the top fast-casual cuisine New York City has to offer," Ed Hogan, national director of retail leasing for Brookfield, said in a statement.

"It will quickly become a favorite dining spot for the office workers, downtown residents and tourists who want speedy and easy service, but also demand quality and creativity.”

The other eateries slated to open in the terrace food court are: Dig Inn Seasonal Market; popular salad chain Chop't Creative Salad Company; Mexican taqueria Dos Toros; Little Muenster, known for "super fancy grilled cheese sandwiches"; and healthy Long-Island based Skinny Pizza.

The terrace is just one part of Brookfield's $250 million overhaul of its Vesey Street office complex. Directly below the terrace, a European-style marketplace will offer fresh meats, seafood, produce, coffee, desserts and two sit-down restaurants overlooking the Hudson River.

Peter Poulakakos, of Harry’s Italian and Financier Patisserie, will run the marketplace, according to reports.
