ASTORIA — The Department of Parks and Recreation will reveal its design plans to transform the unused diving pool at Astoria Park into a performance art space, according to City Councilman Peter Vallone's office.
Officials will present the plans at a public meeting Wednesday night at the Astoria World Manor, at 25-22 Astoria Blvd. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The defunct Olympic-sized diving pool hasn't been used in decades, though it hulks over the park's regular swimming pool, which is still used every summer and is the largest in New York City.
The Parks Dept. has proposed turning the unused space into a performance venue with a stage in the existing diving-pool area and the creation of a canopy over the site’s bleachers, according to sketches of the plan released last spring.
