Leske's Bakery Brings Pink Twinkies, Black and White Cookies to Park Slope

By Leslie Albrecht | February 13, 2013 3:04pm

PARK SLOPE — Just in time to buy your sweetie something scrumptious for Valentine's Day, Leske's Bakery has opened a Park Slope outpost.

The Bay Ridge-based mainstay will sell its famed sweet treats — including black and white cookies and "Hostess inspired" Twinkies dyed pink for Valentine's Day — at 588 Fifth Ave., between 16th Street and Prospect Avenue. The bakery's arrival in Park Slope was first reported by South Slope News.

The storefront formerly housed Sweet Treasures Bakery. Leske's opened its original location in Bay Ridge in 1961, closed in 2011, then reopened in the same spot (7612 Fifth Ave.) under new owners using the same bakers and same recipes, according to the store's website.

In an open letter to Park Slope, Leske's enticed customers to its new store with descriptions of its traditional Scandinavian fare, including "Kransekake, a wedding cake made of ground almonds and sugar, unparalleled Danish, and flavorful limpa bread."

"All you need to know is: Leske's is good, a little bit different, very Scandinavian and totally New York," the letter read.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz attended the grand opening of the Park Slope location on Tuesday, and declared that the black and white cookies were "calorie free."

The Park Slope location will be open seven days a week until 8 p.m.
