CHELSEA — A creator of the High Line will step down as head of the park by the end of the year.
Robert Hammond, the co-founder who served as executive director at Friends of the High Line since the park's inception, will leave the role after more than a decade of high-powered fundraising and advocacy.
The decision means that the multi-million dollar organization will now have to search for a new executive director.
Joshua David, who with Hammond helped create the High Line and turn it into a park of worldwide renown, will remain with the organization as president.
"We're both confident that we have built this organization with an eye toward the future," Hammond said in an email to High Line supporters.
"Josh and I will always be part of the High Line, but its success is not dependent upon us."
Hammond added that he would remain connected to the park he helped create, but hinted he may create a new business.
"In my heart I am an entrepreneur," he said.
