BUSHWICK — Eleven children were among 14 people injured, one seriously, after a school bus slammed into a car in Bushwick Tuesday morning, according to the FDNY said.
The southbound bus was traveling on Stanhope Street when about 8 a.m. it plowed into the driver's side of a Subaru going east on Wilson Avenue, according to fire officials on the scene.
The students aboard the bus at the time were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, officials said.
The bus driver and matron on board refused medical attention at the scene, officials said.
The driver of the car was seriously hurt, however, though his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, a fire spokesman said.
Some of the victims were taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and other area hospitals, the spokesman said.
The school bus accident comes about a month after the city's public school bus drivers went on strike over a contract dispute. It was not immediately clear, however, if the bus involved in Tuesday's accident was employed by the city's Department of Education.
