13-Year-Old Boy Arrested for Firing Gun at Teen in East Harlem, Cops Say

EAST HARLEM — A 13-year-old boy was arrested for shooting at another teenager Thursday outside the Jefferson Houses, police said.

Police Officers Keith Roman and Samantha Smith from Police Service Area 5, which polices the neighborhood, were on foot when just after 3 p.m. they noticed the boy opening fire on the victim, the NYPD said.

After the cops ran toward the suspect and ordered him to drop his weapon, he complied and was taken into custody. The officers recovered an Interarms Star 9 mm handgun, which had been dropped on the ground, police said.

The victim, a 14-year-old boy, was not hurt, police said.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld by police, has been charged with second degree attempted murder, attempted gang assault, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, possessing a loaded firearm, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
