By Jude Domski | February 7, 2013 2:37pm

UPPER EAST SIDE — Russian designers got a head start on New York Fashion Week at a consulate showcase Wednesday night, complete with the requisite socialites in black leather, fur and jewels.

To celebrate the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, a crowd of designers, models, photographers, stylists and socialites packed an Upper East Side mansion to showcase what Russia's fashionistas have to offer.

DEPESHA magazine and the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York presented the Russian Fashion Industry Showcase and Reception, at the Russian Consulate (formerly the John Henry Hammond Mansion) on Fifth Avenue at East 91st street.

"By supporting the Russian fashion industry at home and abroad, we are working to not only showcase the brightest Russian designers, but also to develop a keen interest in Russian fashion products among U.S. and global consumers of style," wrote Stephan Rabimov, founder and editor-in-chief of DEPESHA, a Russian expatriate lifestyle magazine, in the event invitation.
