By Julie Shapiro | January 23, 2013 6:15pm

MANHATTAN — A woman was held up at gunpoint by a man who followed her into her Greenwich Village apartment building earlier this week — but the suspect fled empty-handed when she screamed, police said.

The suspect tailed the 29-year-old victim into her building, near West Houston and Thompson streets, about 1:15 a.m. Jan. 21 and then followed her up to her apartment, the NYPD said.

The suspect then pulled out a silver handgun and demanded money, police said.

The woman started screaming, and the suspect fled without taking anything, police said. The woman was unhurt.

Police described the suspect as a 30-to-40-year-old man, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, 160 to 180 pounds.

He was last seen wearing olive cargo pants, a black leather coat, white sneakers and a black knit cap.
