'Girls' Fans Rev Up for Season Premiere With Spinning, Drinks and Hairdos

By Meredith Hoffman | January 9, 2013 3:14pm

GREENPOINT — From the Café Grumpy barista anticipating her HBO debut as she serves up lattes, to the fitness fiend in TriBeCa daydreaming of Lena Dunham in spin class, "Girls" fans across the city are gearing up for the Season 2 Premiere Sunday.

Devotees of the quirky Brooklyn-based sitcom plan to celebrate the event in (their own) style, whether with drinking games or new hairdos.

Want to join in or vicariously experience the revelry? DNAinfo.com is here to help.

Order Coffee From a Future HBO Actress

Café Grumpy gained fame last year when Season 1 of "Girls" was filmed in the Greenpoint coffee shop and now barista Tinuade Oyelowo is set to make an appearance in a few of the Season 2 episodes, she said.

“I don’t think it’s going to be my big break or anything,” she said coolly from behind the counter this week. Still, she admitted, "I'm really excited."

The show has caused a tourist boom at Chelsea’s Café Grumpy instead of at the Brooklyn locale since the Manhattan spot is more convenient to out-of-towners.

But fans won't be able to grab a cup of java and take in the episode in the Greenpoint spot, which closes early in the evening.

“We’re not showing the Season 2 premiere here,” Oyelowo said. “I’ll watch it with friends.”

Cycle and Sweat in "Girls" Spirit

You may never make it off the packed waiting list, but spin-class chain SoulCycle is offering free “Girls”-themed sessions this week at a handful of their New York City studios.

“All GIRLS Rides sold out within minutes and we have hundreds of people on the wait list,” SoulCycle’s Senior PR and Marketing Manager Kelsey Kyro said. “We’ve even added an additional 10 classes to keep up with the demand.”

Drink For Lena Dunham's Naked Body

Dunham’s TV boyfriend won’t be the only one to cheer on her nudity this Sunday night at Professor Thom’s, an East Village bar promising free shots every time the sitcom’s writer, director and star disrobes.

"Oh and also free shots for the first person to successfully identify a bar or restaurant on the show," the watering hole notes on its website. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the viewing party.

Get a "Girls"-Do

The Dry Bar salon offered up free hair appointments last week to honor "Girls."  According to the show's Facebook page the promos have already sold out, but next time you see a fashionable 'do you can think of Dunham's eclectic style.

Watch the “Boys” Version of “Girls”

If you've already watched Season 1 of "Girls" more times than you can count, you might want to check out (or revisit) the "Boys" spoof trailer that debuted on YouTube this summer to get into the spirit.

Nearly 300,000 viewers have already done the same.
