THE BRONX — An ambulance bearing a pregnant woman who was apparently going into labor was rear-ended en route to the hospital Thursday morning, authorities said.

The FDNY ambulance was traveling north on the Major Deegan Expressway about 10 a.m. when it slowed near Lincoln Avenue in Mott Haven because of a two-car collision on the road ahead, the FDNY reported. A van then slammed into the back of the ambulance.

The pregnant woman, who was being transported with contractions, did not sustain any injuries in the crash, the FDNY source said. One of the EMTs, however, did report back pain. Both were transported to Lincoln Hospital.

No other drivers or passengers were hurt.
