UPPER WEST SIDE — The Upper West Side man who was struck and killed by a street sweeper in Brooklyn early Saturday had a young daughter and was well-liked in the community, neighbors said.
Ronald Sinvil, 36, who lived on West 99th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, was a family man who cared for his mother and daughter in the building where he grew up, neighbors said.
"Everyone on the block knew him as Wowo," said Arturo Andino, 64, who has lived below Sinvil's family apartment for more than 40 years.
Sinvil was crossing Flatbush Avenue near Atlantic Avenue in front of the Barclays Center Saturday at 1 a.m. when he was hit by a New York City Sanitation street sweeper and was pulled under by the vehicle's rear tire, officials said. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"He’s just a really good guy, and a good father," his brother, Josue Sinvil, told the New York Post. "He was really funny, sociable. We’re all very sad."
Sinvil was known for sitting outside his building for hours, neighbors said.
"He was very respectful, a valuable part of the community," Andino said.
Neighbor Sonia Martell, 67, said Sinvil "took care of his family," and was "a good son" who was "always taking care of his mother."
