QUEENS — A nearby gas leak forced students and faculty at Nathaniel Hawthorne Middle School in Oakland Gardens to evacuate Thursday morning, officials said.

The leak occurred around 8:28 a.m., after a 12-inch gas main broke on 210th Street near the school, officials said.

Con Edison workers and firefighters rushed to the scene and were able to quickly stop the leak, school officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, and students and faculty were allowed back inside about 30 minutes later.
