HELL'S KITCHEN — Clubland isn't dead — it's just moving uptown.
A 1,240-person megaclub is set to open to the industrial far west side of Hell's Kitchen, joining another megaclub coming soon to the area, as well as two that are already there.
The new spot at 637 W. 50th St. will be called Space NY and is owned by Eden Ballroom LLC, which operates several other clubs, including Flatiron's Taj Lounge, and made an unsuccessful attempt to open a venue at the former Roxy nightclub in Chelsea in early 2010.
Space NY, which does not yet have an opening date, will join the popular club Pacha, which already has a 30,000-square-foot, four-floor location on West 46th Street, on the same block as the 700-person Hudson Terrace.
Additionally, the Queens-based hot spot La Boom plans to open a three-story Latin club nearby at 605 W. 48th St.
Space NY's liquor license won unanimous support from Community Board 4's Business Licenses and Permits Committee Tuesday night, with board members noting that the area is largely industrial, filled with parking lots, equipment storage and television studios — and very few residents.
Still, some committee members were concerned about the influx of partiers the new clubs would bring to the area.
"Between all of those licenses, you're looking at maybe 8,000 people," said Paul Seres, co-chairman of the committee.
He added he's also heard rumors the old H&H Bagel Factory on West 46th Street may reopen as an event space.
"You're not going to get any immediate complaints from neighbors about the operation of the venue — it's more about pedestrian traffic," Seres said.
Space NY previously won support for its liquor license from Community Board 4 in May of 2010. But it needed to appear before the board again because more than two years had passed, and the club's owners were unable to move forward with the project until now.
Eden Ballroom's Anthony Piacquadio said the planned club, far from most subways, would apply for a taxi stand outside the front entrance, allowing club-goers to easily catch a cab. The club also plans to spruce up the block by planting some trees, he explained.
Nearby, La Boom intends to offer shuttle buses to Midtown for its clientele as a way to draw them to the far-flung neighborhood.
The address at Space NY will include a 24-hour cafe and a 266-person lounge on the ground floor, along with a 900-person club upstairs, representatives noted. To keep the massive crowds in line, the club will hire 25 security guards for busy nights.
