BROOKLYN — Police found skeletal human remains on an island off of Canarsie Wednesday morning, officials said.
The remains, which belonged to a woman, were first spotted Tuesday afternoon on Canarsie Pol, an island near Canarsie Pier, police said.
Because it was getting dark and foggy and the water was choppy, NYPD Harbor Patrol waited until Wednesday to land on the island and look for the remains.
The bones were taken to the city Medical Examiner's Office, where officials will determine a cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
